Are there 250,000 Atheists on Facebook?

by k3vin on May.27, 2008, under News Article

This is a question I want to have answered as well. Since atheists are very independent, it’s hard to get a bunch of them together in one place to discuss. As to whether or not gathering many atheists together is a good idea is still yet to be seen.

“Are there 250,000 Atheists on Facebook?”

This question was first asked by the author of the blog The Seeker. He has set up a facebook group asking if there are 250,000 atheists on facebook. The group is faily small right now so I’m asking for anyone who is an atheist to go ahead and join the group here.

    And pray, where is THAT claim coming from?

    Some Religiopolitical Right weblog or FoaF e-mail?

    @IludiumPhosdex: I don’t understand what claim you’re referring to.

    Is it “Since atheists are very independent”? Being an atheist myself and having several atheist friends I was speaking from personal experience (hah) when I wrote that.

    They call me The Seeker.

    I found this from a pingback (thanks for that), and would like to say thanks for the interest in my group. I never dreamed I’d have more than a few people really interested in it, you know? But I guess I was wrong.

    I also thought it wouldn’t get over 100 members in the first three months, but in under three it’s done about twelve times that.

    If there aren’t 250,000 Atheists on Facebook, the traffic will stop sometime!

    Haha, cheers mate.
